About Rev. Loving
Linda Carolyn LovingUniversity of Michigan – B.A. in Theater
McCormick Theological Seminary – Masters of Divinity
Rev. Linda C. Loving is an actress, writer, consultant and ordained Presbyterian minister. In her twenty years in parish ministry she helped to “break the stained glass ceiling” when she became one of the few women to serve as senior pastor of a large multiple staff congregation (The House of Hope Presbyterian Church in Saint Paul, MN). She is featured in the “Great Preacher Series” of the Odyssey cable network; has taught preaching at McCormick Theological Seminary; has traveled widely as guest preacher and has contributed sermons to several publications.
Ms. Loving majored in theater at the University of Michigan and in the 1970’s performed at Midwestern theater companies including The Milwaukee Repertory Theater. She also did graduate studies in hospital administration at Trinity University and served in that field for ten years before attending McCormick Theological Seminary, where she was awarded a Masters of Divinity degree as well as the Ellen and James Taylor Preaching Award and the Henry W. Andersen Award in Pastoral Ministry.
For the past nineteen years Ms. Loving has performed the one woman drama “Julian of Norwich” by J. Janda, bringing to life the spiritual wisdom of this medieval mystic. Julian was the first known woman to write in Middle English; her writings speak profoundly to our own times and this performance has inspired audiences around the country. Loving’s performance was recently shot on location in Norwich, England and the DVD is in international distribution.
Ms. Loving serves/has served on the following Boards of Directors: Macalester College, McCormick Theological Seminary, Jungle Theatre of Minneapolis, Presbyterian Homes and Services of Minnesota, Presbyterian Homes and Services of Northern California, UNICEF-Chicago Committee, City Lit Theatre in Chicago, Chicago Sunday Evening Club Advisory Board, Church Federation of Greater Chicago.
Rev. Loving celebrates the continual weaving together of all these threads into the tapestry of her varied and unpredictable life as she calls people of all faiths – and uncertain faith – to seek the Holy and attend to the sacred in their own lives. Her newest endeavors include writing a drama intended for network TV, pastoral coaching and sabbatical supply preaching.
